2025 Local Government Climate Action Key Performance Indicators Infographic Summary
Local authorities are at the forefront of climate action in Ireland, supporting the transition to a more sustainable and climate-resilient future. The Climate Action Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) provide a way of measuring and tracking progress across key areas of local government climate action, from planning and implementation to community engagement and organisational capacity.
The 2025 results show that climate action is becoming increasingly embedded across the local government sector, with evidence of growing delivery, strengthened capacity and continued progress towards climate objectives. While challenges remain, the findings highlight the scale and breadth of activity taking place nationwide and demonstrate the important role local authorities are playing in supporting climate action at local level.
The report provides an evidence base to inform policy, support accountability and help local authorities, government departments and other stakeholders identify successes, learn from experience and target future climate action efforts.
