About Local Government

With over half the finalists coming from the local authority sector, this year's Ireland eGovernment Awards shine a spotlight on the depth and scale of digital transformation happening at local level. Sixteen of Ireland’s 31 local authorities have been shortlisted across 16 of the 17 categories highlighting the growing influence and ambition of local government in shaping the future of public service.

Projects recognised span areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, citizen engagement, sustainability, and cross sector collaboration. These nominations are more than just achievements; they’re a signal of how local authorities are reimagining how services are designed, delivered and improved for the public.

“What’s most encouraging about these projects is the innovation, thinking outside the norm and trying new things,” said Sabahat Khan, CIO of the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) and a member of this year’s judging panel.

“It’s not just about technology: it’s about coordinated, secure, and meaningful transformation that delivers value to our communities," said Khan. "These are the basic tenets the Local Government Digital and ICT Strategy is built upon.”

The LGMA is proud to support and participate in this year’s awards taking place on the 18th of September at O’Reilly Hall, UCD, as a sponsor and advocate for local government excellence. The programme begins with a Leadership Summit spotlighting Ireland’s top digital changemakers, followed by a red-carpet awards lunch where An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin TD will present this year’s awards.
