Local authorities recognised for digital achievements at the 2025 eGovernment Awards
Ireland's local authorities received recognition for their achievements in AI, cybersecurity, digital inclusion and smart cities in the 2025 Ireland eGovernment Awards. The awards ceremony took place on 18 September at O’Reilly Hall, UCD.
The Ireland eGovernment Awards celebrate innovation in Ireland's public sector. This year local government was well represented, with over half the nominations going to local authorities. On awards night itself six local authorities took home trophies.
Local authority winners included the following.
- Dublin City Council: AI in Governance Award
- Fingal County Council Local Government Award
- Galway County Council: Open Data Award
- Longford County Council and Microsoft Dream Space: Digital Inclusion Award
- Louth County Council: Smart Cities and Urban Development Award
- Sligo County Council: Promoting Ireland Overseas Award
The LGMA also won the Cyber Security Award for their unified, proactive framework that strengthens local authority cyber resilience.
Speaking about local government's awards success, Sabahat Khan, LGMA CIO said: “It’s not just about technology – it’s about coordinated, secure, and meaningful transformation that delivers value to our communities.”
